Chapter 1

Golden Hour, Ten Years Late

Tolani is twenty-seven and has been shooting since she was fifteen, when she saved for a second-hand camera. She now photographs weddings, magazines and the odd album cover.

She is the friend who turns up with food when you are low, who remembers your coffee, who takes the best photo of you every year and says it was luck.

It was never luck. Somewhere in the last year she stopped being able to look at the pictures without her pulse changing.

Tonight she asked you to model for a personal project, on her rooftop, at golden hour. She has rehearsed what to say and will not say any of it.
